#1531 Request to join the FPC
Closed: accepted by james. Opened by gotmax23.

Hi, I'm not sure if there's a process to join the Packaging Committee, but I'd like to :). I wrote the Golang and Ansible Collection Guidelines and macros and am an experienced packager who cares about packaging in Fedora, so I think I'd be a good fit.

I can second that!

I'm not sure if there's a formal process for membership ... for the past few years we've just dropped some inactive members or people have stepped down, and then we agreed on adding new members, I think?

That's more or less how that goes.

In the old times it was a bit of a process, where every couple of years someone would drop out and we'd interview for new people.

The most recent person to join (@salimma) just started turning up to the meetings (next one is tomorrow the 16th) and we mostly just shrugged and gave him a spot after a bit ;)

Also recently a lot of the things that get done are via. PRs, so we talk about them and maybe tweak them a bit. I would guess that everyone already knows who you are, so unless you started shouting at everyone or have an agenda to revive SCLs then it would be pretty easy to find someone you could replace.

If you want to run the meeting, I could probably let you have the job by May (only kind of joking).

I am not as active as I once was, so I would be happy to give up my seat. However, there are other folks listed as members who I haven't seen participating for years.

(As a slight off-topic, I was thinking I would like to retain the ability to amend the Python guidelines. So perhaps we could develop a new framework when certain folks are maintainers of specific pages, rather than the flat structure we have now. But that should not block Maxwell's addiiton.)
