#571 Returning user
Closed: declined by kevin. Opened by amoradi.

Hi there,

I'm a returning packager and recently noticed I've been marked inactive and removed from packager group. I've been redirected to file a ticket here to confirm my identity to reinstate my status. Let me know what I should do to confirm my identity.

Unfortunately, I didn't the notification for the initial ticket. My email is current and actively monitored.

Thank you,
Armin

I'm not sure how we can verify you are you. ;(

We use:
* gpg encrypted email (but your account doesn't have a gpg key fingerprint attached)
* ssh access to touch a file (but your account has no ssh public key attached).

Can you think of any other way? What packages did you want to maintain? Or perhaps there's another level of access that would be sufficient for your needs?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for following up. Honestly I can't really think of another way, other than ad-hoc 2-factor: I 'have' my email which hasn't changed in many years (to be fair, I don't necessarily have to be the same person to have the same email) and I 'know' Rex Dieter was my mentor (who doesn't appear to be involved anymore).

I was going to help out with zig since it looks a bit unloved, but mostly a couple of my own stuff once they are finished. But I don't mind starting from scratch and going through proper channels again since I would need the knowledge refresh anyway.

The main issue is really the email alias that died (that's how I found out I was taken out of the group). If an alternate level of access would help to fix the alias, that'd be fine. I'd need to be mentored anyway since it's been a while.

Well, we disabled all single character accounts for a number of reasons: They don't work in some places like our discourse server, they sort 'higher' than all other users and they have a illusion of being 'official' or important.

So, no, there's not a way to get the alias working again I am afraid. :(

I can clear your email from that account if you want to make a new account with the same email address though?

That's unfortunate, a fair number of people/accounts have that alias as my email address, so I'll have to figure out what to do. Also, just so we're on the same page, my username is 'amoradi', it's not a single character account, I'm not sure if that changes anything though.

No, I'd like to keep my account as is, there's a bit of nostalgia there I want to keep. I'll make sure to add my ssh key this time. I'll claw my way back in ^_^. Hopefully I'll find a sponsor again. It was fun the first time, and I'm sure it will be fun again.

Thanks for your help and info. Cheers!

Ugh, sorry about that. I was also exchanging emails with a user with a one character name and I got things mixed up. ;(

yes, we can definitely get your alias working again in that case. I have added you to a group so it should re-appear in the next hours.

if you want to get back into packager, you can use any of the ways at:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Packager_sponsor_policy/

if you have any issues with the alias/etc, please feel free to mail me directly or file a infrastructure ticket.

Thank you! What a plot twist! :O

Thank you so much! I'll follow through with the packaging guidelines first and get something ready before looking for a sponsor.

Thanks for your help! Cheers!
