#440 application for sponsor status
Closed: accepted by kevin. Opened by mattdm.

I'd like to encourage more people with the relevant expertise to become potential package sponsors. I haven't done a lot of packaging or reviewing lately, but I believe I do meet the qualifications, and therefore should lead by example.

  1. Maintain at least three packages: calc, dateutils, icebreaker (primary), others (secondary) https://src.fedoraproject.org/user/mattdm/projects
  2. Have done at least five high-quality, non-trivial package reviews: list of package reviews — 27 total, some of which must qualify :)
  3. Have been members of the packager group for at least one release cycle (generally six months): yes

Thank you for your consideration!

-1 because @mattdm is biased in dispute resolution processes (only listens to one side), which is an undesirable trait for a sponsor.

+1, both on @mattdm's individual merits, and because it seems obvious that the project leader should be able to sponsor new packagers.

@kkofler Why would a sponsor be dealing with any kind of dispute resolution?

I am not involved in dispute resolution over packaging. However, as Project Leader, I am often involved in other types of dispute resolution. I promise all of you I always try to do my best and listen to all sides and act fairly — and I don't know what more I can do beyond that.

+1. I think the project leader should be able to sponsor new packagers into the project.

@kkofler Why would a sponsor be dealing with any kind of dispute resolution?

According to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packager_sponsor_responsibilities , the sponsor is responsible towards the packagers they sponsor to some extent and can unsponsor the packager in the case of abuses. Hence, the sponsor can end up as a point of contact in the case of disputes with one of the sponsored packagers.

That's true. I take that responsibility seriously and hope everyone else does as well.

Sorry for the delay here.

Use your powers wisely!
