Hello, I would like to submit a patched version of libatasmart and hopefully for a few other packages, so I am filing this request.
Thank you
For providing patches for existing packages you should be able to just attach them to bugzilla bugs on the existing package. :)
Or were you also intending to submit new packages for review?
So, should I run a proper build on koji and link to those packages in the original bug report, attach the package I've built locally, or attach the patch (for which there is a link in bugzilla)?
At the moment I have [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1157150 this update to libatasmart] and a repackage of an older libtiff, which I'm not sure if it would be allowed to re-enter the official repositories - I have to ask the current maintainers.
There are also a couple of scientific programs that I would like to maintain, if I can convince upstream to adopt a fedora-compatible license (I'm currently trying), but that might take a while.
Obviously, I am not in desperate need of hosting space, but I might have to relocate from my current university server in 5-6 months. I've been trying to follow the [http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers Join the package collection maintainers] guide from the wiki, but I think I'm still a little lost.
I would really appreciate any pointers you could spare.

I would attach the patch and say that you had built and tested it.
Right. If there's enough need a backwards compat package could be made, but yes, should discuss with the current maintainers.
Licensing is often difficult. ;(

Sure. I just wanted to clarify that you would be submitting some packages for review at some point as thats what this process is for. ;)
I've added you to the correct group, so you should have fedora people space in about 30min or so.
Good luck!
Thank you very much. If I understand the process correctly, now I have to ask the original package maintainer if he would be willing to accept my package update, so perhaps he should be the one to take my review request in bugzilla.
