The forgotten patch is not required since Firefox 2.0 and it's causing bad rendering in FF3.

As for background in Entries and Progressbars and widgets containing Entry it seems rather a gtk problem (a background is drawn by gtk iself and we need it to redraw in the theme to make rounded corners work).
