** 1. What is the event and why should Fedora do it? ** - I am reaching out to you about OSCAL2022. OSCAL (Open Source Conference Albania) is an international 2-days conference taking place in Tirana, Albania. During the past years, the Fedora Project has been there with an info booth, speakers, or as a sponsor.
A brief reminder on what OSCAL is about and what keeps the community behind it going: OSCAL is the first annual international conference in Albania organized to promote software freedom, open-source software, free culture, online security, and knowledge sharing. During the last six editions, OSCAL has continuously been shaping its identity and we are now proud to have it recognized by Open Source enthusiasts, professionals, and activists as one of the main events about open technology and open values in the region.
OSCAL is organized on a volunteer basis from Open Labs Albania, the community that promotes the same values as OSCAL since 2012. A community that has been steadily growing in numbers and influence, initiating important initiatives involving the Public Administration, Universities, and other local organizations. We are more than happy to have students as the most important attendees of the conference as we aim for OSCAL to be the starting point of their route into Open Source. At the same time, being one of the few events of its kind in the region, OSCAL gatherers many IT professionals, experienced Open Source contributors, and policymakers, most of each are happy to return each year.

I am creating this ticket in order to discuss a sponsorship opportunity from the Fedora Project for the conference. Back in 2020, Mindshare agreed to go for a 1500€ sponsorship but the conference was canceled. See Issue #190
Benefits for each tier can be found on the Sponsorship Prospectus here: https://oscal.openlabs.cc/assets/OSCAL_2020_Prospectus.pdf
In the past years, there always have been local Fedora ambassadors leading Fedora's presence at the conference. Last year we even had a release party during the conference. Here is my report from last year: https://marianaballa.com/the-fedora-project-at-oscal-2019/
** 2. Event Date: ** June 18-19, 2022 ** 3. Event Location: ** Tirana, Albania ** 4. Swag needs (and why): ** Yes. No matter whether the sponsorship request gets approved I will apply for a booth at the conference. We already have 2 rollup banners, a table cloth, and a fedorator. It would be great if we could have some additional swag. ** 5. Target Audience: ** Open Source enthusiasts, professionals, and activists ** 7. Full Name: ** Mariana Balla ** 8. FAS ID: ** marianab
PS: In parallel with OSCAL, openSUSE will have openSUSE Summit and will bring over many community contributors. Think of it as a small Flock for the openSUSE community. So, there will be quite some Linux/ open-source exposure.
(I am CC'ing on the ticket @silva who is managing sponsorships for the conference)
Hi @marianab we discussed this in yesterdays Mindshare Committee meeting and generally we are +1 dependent on the state of Covid in June. Once the later Mindshare meeting has a chance to review, we will add votes. I am also in the process of solidifying event guidelines that I will need you to review as the person requesting the funding.
A question that came up: Is the fedorator still working? we aren't sure if the software is being maintained
We also think it would be great to get updated banner/tablecloth with the new fedora logo, I have opened this ticket to get that in motion: https://pagure.io/design/issue/808
Thank you for approving this :)
The Fedorator is not working. I mean the Rasberrypi turns on but it does nothing from what is supposed to be doing... I remember that back in 2020, before the covid outbreak, we tried to update it with the latest Fedora ISO images with some advice we got from Fedorans at DevConf in Brno but we didn't manage to do much.
Some updates here:
Lastly, the CFP is still open 🎉 I would be happy to have more Fedora people join me!
@riecatnor can you please provide me with the company details that should be on the sponsorship invoice? I need the company name, tax ID (or however this is called in the US), and an address.
Also, should we email the invoice only to you?
I forgot to mention that Fedora has been already added to the Sponsors list: https://oscal.openlabs.cc/sponsors/
Hi @marianab, I forgot to reply here and emailed you instead :) to note for the thread, we are working out the admin details for the finances by email. We should work on the next step of getting swag to you. Can you please open a ticket on fedora-budget using the swag-shipment template? [0] I know you mentioned that some things are better for us to ship, some might be better to produce locally, so please note that in the ticket. Thanks!
