#299 Swag request for people involved in making Outreachy 2021 success
Closed: Stale by jflory7. Opened by t0xic0der.

Background

The Outreachy 2021 cohort for May to August has been a great success, thanks to the work put by the coordinators and the work put in by the mentors, technical and general in making sure the intern know what they are expected to perform and where they can head to for communicating as a community member.

A mentor[1] has to perform the following responsibilities[2] throughout the application period and contribution period of an internship cohort.

  • Propose a project with well-defined requirements, processes and objectives for contribution.
  • Commit 5-10 hours in a week for six weeks to review applicants contributions.
  • Keep aside 5 hours a week during the three month contribution period to work alongside the intern.
  • Regularly communicating with the intern and acting as a bridge between them and the bigger community.
  • Perform documentation and/or blogging to inform progress updates and reflect changes to projects.
  • Be the final accountable person in ensuring the success of the student by evaluating progress.
  • And much more.

I like to think of this as a fixed commitment from the contributors of the community, that they take up as a responsibility for a specific amount of time.

Request

I would like to request some swags that can act as a token of appreciation for the people that have devoted their time and effort in their involvement in making the Outreachy 2021 - May to August round a grand success. This would also encourage the participation of community members as potential providers for projects and mentors down the line and just because the involvement would necessarily require dedication of quantified time and effort, I am sure that the project proposals and/or mentorship proposals would be mostly genuine.

Ignoring coordinators, I am +1 to the sending sway to outreachy participants (mentors and mentees)
Not sure what are the logistical efforts behind this so will have to wait for Marie's final words.. but generally as one of the outreachy coordinator and as a Mindshare committee member.. it gets my vote :)

We discussed this in the Mindshare Committee meeting and we agreed to end some Fedora branded powerbanks (old logo). @t0xic0der we will need to gather addresses, I will contact you with the exact info we need to gather

@riecatnor, sure thing. I will be glad to help you on this one.

Just an update on this:
We (@t0xic0der and I) have the list of people we want to send the swag to
We are sending them an email requesting their shipping address

Over a year passed since the last comment on this ticket. I'm not sure if these swags were delivered or not. But I also think the value of sending them now is mixed.

Given the ongoing march to GitLab, I am going to close this ticket as stale. In the future, we can definitely accommodate swag requests like this though. We can also create a special claim code for people to go and get a swag item themselves instead of us collecting addresses manually.
