#194 Suggest replacing Ambassadors mailing list with Mindshare mailing list
Closed: Stale by jflory7. Opened by jflory7.

On the Joining Fedora Advocates part of the docs, it suggests subscribing to the Ambassadors mailing list. However, this mailing list is moderated. To join the list, a list owner has to approve you. Who those moderators are is unclear. It's a catch-22 where you are asked to join the list, but a new subscriber won't know who to ask in order to become subscribed. Thus, we are promoting a closed place for discussion that is not open to newer contributors. Generally it is older contributors who are subscribed to this list.

Historically, those from the early 2010s told me before the list was moderated because it fit into the mentorship model and it was done to avoid spammed funding requests. The mentorship model no longer exists; we encourage people to directly start organizing events and the Join SIG is doing an excellent job with mentorship. The funding request spam is not as much of an issue now because there is a clearly-defined process to request funding.

So, I think it makes more sense to promote the general Mindshare list for Advocates instead of the Ambassadors list.

Thoughts?

FWIW the mentorship model is still how to become an Ambassador, I believe some mentors are still adding people.

Although, I just made the list accept subscriptions from anyone and not require approval.

+1 to close this ticket

This is sufficient for me. I do think it is confusing to have multiple overlapping lists, but making the Ambassador list public has always been one of my biggest grievances.

Closing as stale.
