#38 Outreachy project - CLI for pull-requests workflow
Closed Opened by bookwar.

One-line name
CLI for pull-requests workflow
Short title for this internship project proposal
Create CLI tool to interact with Pagure pull-requests API
Longer description of project
Fedora uses Pagure as a main Code Review system and Web UI for its Git codebase. Pagure is similar to GitHub/GitLab, and is an open source system written in Python (see pagure.io). There is a REST API which provides the required functionality and the goal of the project is to create/design the CLI tooling around it.
License of the project
GPL
Longevity (How long has the team accepted contributions)
Pagure has been around since at least 2015
Community size
Fedora maintainers
How will this project benefit Fedora
Increase adoption of pull-requests workflow among Fedora maintainers , which opens up the possibilities to increase collaboration and CI coverage
Sample plan of work for the 12 week internship
  • Design: Investigate the current state of the tooling (what is available for GitHub/Gerrit/), define the minimal set of operations to support (for example list pull requests, checkout a certain pull-request) and choose the way to implement them
  • Implement initial set of operations
  • Package it for Fedora
  • Document, publish and start the discussion with community
  • Add functionality (check ci-status of a PR, list approvals,.. ) and iterate on community feedback
  • Intergate with fedpkg
  • Consider extending to other Code-Review systems (GitLab, GitHub, Bitbicket..)
Benefits to intern
  • complete project: start from the design and lead all the way to the final result
  • large userbase
  • interaction with the community

Hi,

For your questions:

  • It does look like the Pagure repo is GPL https://pagure.io/pagure/blob/master/f/LICENSE
  • Longevity is asking how long the project has been around. I would say pagure has been around since at least 2015, maybe earlier
  • You need to give examples of application tasks. These should be small 'easy fixes' to get applicants familiar with the code base and to have them make a small contribution. A good example might be some of the issues tagged https://pagure.io/pagure/issues?status=Open&tags=easyfix or writing a unit test. Can you list some specific issues you think would make good tasks?

I'm working with the diversity team to review Outreachy proposals. I'll be following up with next steps in the coming weeks. Please note the application period opens September 10th.

Hi, Laura, thanks for the tips.

I'll go through current Pagure issues to find smth relevant and update the ticket here.

Hi, it's getting close to the deadline. Can you go ahead and fill out the project proposal at the outreachy website? https://www.outreachy.org/communities/cfp/fedora/

Hi, reminder about putting this in the system, the deadline is coming up

I submitted the project here https://www.outreachy.org/communities/cfp/fedora/project/create-cli-tool-to-interact-with-pagure-pull-reque/

Thanks, I approved the proposal. The round is going to open next week so you'll be getting contacted soon. I'm going to close this ticket.
