I have a reproducable error running ipa-client on a Laptop with Fedora26. After running ipa-client-install, the laptop is not longer able to boot. seems the initramfs system is not able to mount the volumes. i had used snapshots for / and /usr filesystem, and was able to boot from cdrom, and rollback the snapshots - after that all run fine again. i tried to do new snapshots - and reboot the system - all was OK (so it's not related to the snapshots). Than i added freeipa-4.5 repository, and did a "dnf install freeipa-client". Again a reboot was successfull. Now i run "ipa-client-install" - it completed succesfully, but the following reboot failed again. System did again throw many errors when trying o mount the Volumes, give a message about emergency mode, but the emergency login never was displayed and possible, I just was able to power off the system, start it from CDROM, and roll back the snapshots. I tried this with the Version in the Fedora26 Repositoriers (4.4) also - with the same result.
Today i tried to add a Fedora26 Workstation using ipa-client-install - with the same result as with try it on Laptop - the system stop in the stage of initramfs when mounting the root file systems. On both systems the original installation was done with a much earlier (do not remember was Fedora 18 or Fedora20) version, and than updated using rolling updates. Also both systems use volumes for / and /usr filesystems...
Hello, thank you very much for reporting the issue. I would like to ask you to provide the following if possible:
1.)
You mentioned: "seems the initramfs system is not able to mount the volumes"
Would you be able to get "rdsosreport.txt" from initramfs or get any screenshot?
2.)
Are you providing any other options to "ipa-client-install" command?
3.)
You mentioned: "System did again throw many errors when trying to mount the Volumes, give a message about emergency mode"
Any screenshot available?
4.)
If you do not have any sensitive data or you are able to filter them would it be possible to get one sosreport (dnf install sos and then sosreport) before the issue and another one after the issue from the rescue mode before any restore action? Or you can send all the information to my mail: mreznik@redhat.com
Thanks!
Hello mreznik,
sorry - read your requests really late - I fixed all the problem's at the moment by switching back to my old nis server with rolling back the volume snapshots. but i'l install ipa-client again this weekend and try to send you some more informations. Not able to make a Screenshot in this situation, but i can create photos of the screen...:-D Sadly i do not know where to find rdsosreport.txt - must i prepare something to get this file (think the initrd is not able to access any of the Logical volumes - so could be difficult for the tools to save anything on the disk, if it's not the /boot partition).
Best Regards Harald
