#421 Mozilla Location Service (MLS) shutting down June 12
Closed: Deferred to upstream by catanzaro. Opened by aday.

It has been announced that MLS will be shutting down on June 12. MLS is currently used by geoclue. This will affect:

  • App location requests
  • Automatic time zone
  • Night light sunset>sunrise schedule

We also have UI in gnome-initial-setup and gnome-control-center that refers to MLS.

We're generally of the opinion that having location services is still desirable even if wi-fi geolocation is no longer supported. One option would be to enhance the geolocation portal to allow the user to review and correct any incorrect location choices before they are presented to the application.

Ultimately, we'll defer to upstream here.
