#334 Reconsider GNOME RC testing arrangements
Closed: Fixed by aday. Opened by aday.

I'm not sure that the GNOME RC test week is viable in its current form.

The GNOME schedule has 2 weeks between RC and final. However, GNOME modules don't always release exactly on the deadline, so in reality the time period is less than two weeks. In that time, we have to package the RC, create a testing ISO, run a full week of testing, analyse the results, and then produce and land fixes for any issues that are found.

The last rc test week was for GNOME 43. It ended 2 or 3 days prior to the GNOME 43 final deadline. We didn't have time to chase down the results that came in - see #329 for the details.

One option would be to run the rc testing on a more condensed timeline (say, 2 days of testing, instead of a week). However, I would start by asking how useful this second round of testing is, coming so soon after the beta test week.

We discussed this issue during today's WG call. @kalev and I agree that there's a lack of enthusiasm for the RC test week, coming so soon after the beta test week. For that reason alone, it's likely going to be difficult to make a success of it.

I agree the beta test week is sufficient. @sumantrom @adamwill can we simply cancel the rc test week going forward?

I don't have any objections to that, but sumantro is in charge of test day stuff ATM.

It doesn't seem that an RC test week is being planned, so I think we can close this.
