With gnome 49 rc being in F43 (and gnome 43 coming out next week), it would be a good time to have a test day

Great! During this cycle, we will need a bit more involvement from your side, though. Please give me your thoughts on the following:
1. What test cases should be included?
In Fedora 40, we split it into desktop and core apps and other apps. In Fedora 42, we just did desktop and core apps.
We can do whatever you wish, I can simply cover over the structure from F42 and be done with it. But perhaps you want to include more apps or parts of the desktop, or organize them differently.
For stuff that we want to cover, we need to have a test case (search for "gnome"), but I especially for apps, I don't think we need specialized instructions. Just linking them all to the exploratory test case is I believe also a very useful strategy. So if you want to utilize the existing test cases (might be outdated, though, so please review) or write new ones, both is fine.
2. When should this happen?
We can have it Sep 22-28. There's also CoreOS test week happening, but I don't think it's a problem, people will have plenty time to attend both. Or do you want different dates?
Once we agreed on the stuff above, I'll populate the testdays app and I would appreciate you creating the event wiki page. Or I can copy over some bits and you can fine tune.
Thanks.
I would suggest to pay particular attention to issues around image loading, since we are still dealing with lingering fallout from the glycin transition.
Ok, that's a good point. Do you want to write some specific testcase? Or is including an image viewer testcase enough? Or perhaps just a note on the wiki page for users to be aware of?
What about the rest of the questions asked? We're low on people, I need you to take the initiative, thanks.

Opening images in an image viewer helps. Also, reporting buttons/widgets with missing icons and such. So I think that's sort of implicit with exploratory testing of the desktop apps.
When should this happen?
Next week (October 6 to 10) should be good (considering how close we are to 43's release https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-43/f-43-key-tasks.html)
This also could help us land last minute fixes for GNOME 49.1, since it is planned to be released on October 11. https://release.gnome.org/calendar/
All in all, It's a pretty tight schedule.
Ok, we can still make that happen. Just please look at my question "What test cases should be included?" above, and tell me whether just desktop+core apps, or everything, or what exactly you want to see included.
I am not a member of the Workstation working group, but considering how tight the schedule is and the recent reductions the QE team had to face, I suggest we just focus just on the desktop and core apps test cases https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2024-02-19_Fedora_40_GNOME_46_Desktop_and_Core_Apps
I went through the test cases and they are mostly good enough to repeat for F43 too. We should just update http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Gnome_Terminal to reflect that Ptyxis is the new terminal (still presented as "Terminal" tho). Let me know if you want me to update this page myself.
Once the dates are confirmed, I will make sure to spread the word around to gather volunteers.
+1 for next week
Thanks! I went ahead and created https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2025-10-06_Fedora_43_GNOME_49_Desktop_and_Core_Apps
Thanks. I'm on an event today, but I'll create everything necessary tomorrow, and update this ticket.

I see there are still some references to IRC, etc. If you have some time, look at our (hopefully) up-to-date template and you can update some of that old info with newer one.

I think we should clone it as http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Ptyxis and update the text slightly (package name, category). If you want to do it, I certainly won't say no :) Feel free to update the testcase instructions with anything that seems useful to you.

thanks a lot! I will update the wiki pages as you suggested.
Created: https://testdays.fedoraproject.org/testday/7
I also added Showtime, Decibels and Papers, because they are new apps in F43. Testcases not done yet. Ptyxis testcase is created.
I created the following test cases: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Papers https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Decibels https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Showtime
If you can go through the instructions and tweak whatever you feel necessary, that will certainly be welcome.

I've created a Fedocal event, and prepared test-announce and Fedora Discussion announcements for Monday. Also made some touch-ups to the wiki page. I think this event is fully set up, if you need any adjustments, please shout.
It would be great if you can send out an announcement also to any other channel that is relevant for your user base.
We're seeing quite low attendance. Perhaps a Fedora Magazine post would help, if you're able to have it published today/tomorrow. Or emailing some internal RH teams to participate. (I'm sorry, I'm not able to help with that).
I've exported the test results to the wiki page. This is now resolved.
