Proposing an NSS Test day for October 29, 2009. The primary focus is testing the NSS System Initialization Feature and the split of NSS into three packages (nss, nss-softokn and nssutil) for Fedora 12. NSS also has been updated to upstream NSS 3.12.4 which has been submitted to NIST for FIPS 140 validation.

Hi there! Thanks for proposing this test day topic. NSS is not an area that I'm fully knowledgeable about. I could be wrong, but this specific test topic might not draw a large crowd of testers, since it is somewhat of a lower level focus area. However, I don't see any problems hosting the test day, driving much of the communication and testing and doing so in a transparent manner on irc.
Are there any other open communities that might be interested in this testing? Perhaps upstream nss or other projects that utilize or require nss?
The folks that would be most interested would be fedora package maintainers and developers (and possibly their upstream contacts) whose security products have provided an option to use NSS for their cryptographic services. Maintainers of packages such as: python-nss, openoffice, openswan, libcurl, nss_compat_ossl, mod_nss, and of course Firefox and Thunderbird, come to mind. Some have suggested suggested test cases to Ales. NSS being a cryptographic library is visible to end-users primarily via other products. The latest changes such as the system initialization module for nss are of interest to system administrators.
Sorry for the delayed response. Wanted to call out the wiki page and test cases. THe wiki page has come together very well. You might consider updating the results table to meet your needs. If you want to test day participants to run each test case ... the current format is suitable. If you want testers to just report back what works or what doesn't work .. you can also consider https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-10-08#Results.
Looks like the test case definition has started too. I've updated https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_enable_system_nss to include some changes: 1. I recommend using the wiki template ''QA/Test_Case'' to provide a consistent look and feel 2. I've added that test case to the wiki ''Category:NSS Test Cases'' to keep things organized 3. The test could use help on the ''Expected results''. I'd make changes, but I'm not clear what the expected results are for that test case.
I'll be happy to migrate the existing test cases to the ''QA/Test_Case'' template. Just let me know.
Looks like the NSS test day has been cancelled? I'm sorry to hear, the test day wiki page was looking fairly polished. Is there any thing the Fedora QA team can assist with to reschedule the event?
Detaching from F12 milestone.
I'm closing this ticket because it is fairly old and outdated. F12 is long history and F13 Test Days are almost over. If you want to propose NSS Test Day for Fedora 14, feel free to open a new ticket.
This issue has been migrated to Fedora Forge: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/tickets/issues/26
Please continue any further discussion there.
