#12805 my fedora email doesn't seem to be working
Closed: Fixed by zlopez. Opened by glb.

Describe what you would like us to do:

Poke my @fedoraproject.org email account and see if you can get it working.

When do you need this to be done by? (YYYY/MM/DD)

No deadline. I was just checking out the new Fedora Forge and I noticed that my profile defaulted to my Fedora email (which is fine, I think I'd like to keep it that way), but I don't think the email address is getting forwarded to the gmail address that I have set in the FAS for whatever reason. I think I did get some spam mail from some mail list or another at one time, so I think it was working (briefly) at one time in the distant past.

Thanks!

Checking the FAS, the fedoraproject.org alias should be forwarded to gregory.lee.bartholomew@gmail.com Is that the correct address?

I don't know if this is related to my problem, but FYI, I got one of those "devel mailing list probe" messages.

Anubis is a necessary evil since LLM crawlers started attacking sites causing DOS/DDOS.

It looks like someone's email saying "Anubis is evil" upset an AI system somewhere and it blocked everyone.

I'm not sure if that is related, this seems more like https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/12811

I would wait for https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/12811 to be resolved first as it seems that the e-mails are actually delivered to your e-mail. After that we can try poke if the alias is working.

This was solved a while back. Do you get emails ok now?

It still doesn't seem to be working.

One of the things I'm trying to do is confirm glb@fedoraproject.org as my email address on https://libravatar.org/. It has an option to resend the email confirmation, but I never get it. I've checked my spam, trash, and "all mail" folders and I've double-checked that I don't have a filter that might be deleting the emails.

I just sent another email confirmation to glb@fedoraproject.org from https://libravatar.org/. Is that something you can track and verify that it is passing through the Fedora email server correctly?

ok. I figured this out.

The problem is that we have a 'fedora-contributor' meta group, and anyone in a group in that group gets an email alias. It's supposed to contain all the contributor groups, but sometimes groups are not added to it. The groups you are in were not in it. ;) I added them.

Your alias is there now, so everything should work, can you confirm?

Yes! It is working now. Thank you!

It is strange that that was the problem. I actually did receive some email from some of the mail lists at that address once upon a time a long time ago. Oh well. Thanks again for fixing this!

That may have been under the old account system, which used a different way to tell if someone had contributor groups. Anyhow, glad it's working now.
