#11091 Short Expired Time On fpaste!
Closed: Upstream by kevin. Opened by sallyahaj.

Hello there, I have opened a case regarding fpaste (pastebin.centos.org): My complain is about the availability of short time options list, maximum time is 24H/one day. which I think, it's not enough for a post to complete the discussion in IRC/Matrix. Sometimes people need to re-post on fpaste because the expiration.
The previous case was in here:

Thank you.

The following is what I remember of the historical context for limits on paste:

  • The paste system is run by a volunteer who has limited time to look after the service. Fedora infrastructure just 'points' to said service which has been approved by legal and other groups to use.
  • When we were running this ourselves and with a longer storage time, we were spending a lot of time dealing with the following:
  • A lot of the pastes in any 24 hours are from automated bots which use pastes for dumping passwords or web pages their malware will reference. The methods they use to post change a lot so screening them takes more time than we have.
  • Some of those pastes have been for very criminal acts and we can be held liable for the content if kept long.
  • Due to many different data retention laws, we have found that other information on paste's needed to be deleted.
  • Various requests would come in to delete pastes due to containing internal company info and such.

During the previous review, we came down to 'use the CentOS paste system with the 24 hour limit they have which cover the legal issues' or 'don't offer a paste at all'.

I hope I have captured it accurately.

So, while everything @smooge says is true...

We actually don't run the paste server, we use the centos one...

Can you refile this request over at https://pagure.io/centos-infra/issues so the folks that run the instance can see your request?
