In the Copr team, we re-evaluated what type of instances we use in Fedora's AWS account. And although this account is sponsored by AWS, we try to lower the budget we spend. One of the things we can easily do is to use Reserved instances for servers that run all the time.
I tried to reserve it, but I got this error (on 2022-11-29 around 15:20 UTC) Error: You are not authorized to perform this operation. (Status Code: 403; Error Code: UnauthorizedOperation; Request ID: 13696cef-1374-4f43-b586-06dbcbfb1a46)
I want to ask you if you can grant aws-copr group the ability to purchase reserved instances.
My plan is to every month buy one reserve instance with 1yr full upfront. This way there will be no huge spikes in a monthly bill. And the total bill will be lower. Btw the price difference is huge. It is about a 50-60 % decrease in the price. I have 8 servers that can be converted to reserved instances with 4 additional I will consider.
The priority is low, it does not block us.
IAM policy updated, you should hopefully be able to get reserved instances now
Let us know if it still doesn't work. ;)
