When trying to install whatever game from steam, I get the following notification from gnome-settings-daemon:

Application Stopped
Device memory is nearly full. An application that was using a lot of memory and was forced to stop.

PCI devices

This is a normal OOM (the GPU faults are unrelated). The VM is allocated up to 80% of RAM by default, which means that if everything that is running outside the VM plus VRAM is > 20% of your RAM plus swap, lots of I/O like installing a game within the VM will eventually cause a OOM.

It seems you were running lots of stuff outside the VM (Firefox, Electron, syncthing, etc...), so that along with the 3GB of VRAM you had in use ate up your 20% of RAM slack along with your 8GB of swap.

Once we enable DAX the page cache will no longer be an issue. In the meantime, you can use muvm --mem=8192 to restrict the VM to 8GiB of RAM, for example.
