Currently the TKS and TPS make use of a set of JNI routines under the "symkey" name. Alot of this stuff is due to the fact that there are lacking feature in JSS for manipulating keys. For instance we have to derive keys and do some manipulation upon them. For now, these tasks can only be done in naive NSS code. We should come up with a viable subset of this funcionality to implement in JSS.
At the very minimum we need routines to be able to identify and instantiate java variables to named sym keys that reside in the NSS db. Right now this can not be done, for the support mostly involved creating new sym keys. No working with ones that exist already.
Per discussions, targeted 10.4
