When a password is about to expire a warning is issued in the logs, for example: Exceprt from /var/log/sssd/sssd_default.log: (Mon Dec 3 16:23:14 2012) [sssd[be[default]]] [simple_bind_done] (0x2000): Server returned control [2.16.840.1.113730.3.4.5]. (Mon Dec 3 16:23:14 2012) [sssd[be[default]]] [simple_bind_done] (0x1000): Password will expire in [864000] seconds. (Mon Dec 3 16:23:14 2012) [sssd[be[default]]] [simple_bind_done] (0x0400): Bind result: Success(0), no errmsg set A message needs to be clearly printed when an user logs in, like this for example (RHEL5.6 with pam_ldap): $ ssh <user>@<hostname> Password: Your LDAP password will expire in 10 days. Users need to be warned when a password is about to expire. If the information is only printed in the logs, it's not useful. Requester would like to get this ASAP.
The requester has confirmed that the pam_pwd_expiration_warning would serve their purpose. They are having some problems setting it up correctly, but that's another issue. We can close this RFE now and if we find that the problem they are having is a bug and not misconfiguration, we'll reopen.
