Description of problem:
On Launchpad.net there is a Fedora Project page that was registered by the
admins, but they are waiting for someone to take it. Please contact the
Registry Administrator team and tell them you are the actual owners.

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Launchpad.net
2.Search for Fedora (go to https://launchpad.net/fedora)
3.

Expected results:
There must be something useful in that page and it must belong to Fedora
developers

Actual results:
It belongs to Launchpad Registry admins and contains nothing

Additional info: URL - https://launchpad.net/fedora

There was some discussion on a board private ticket, as well. The relevant items are, in short:

  1. the distro pages feature in Launchpad isn't really used anymore but the pages can't be removed.

  2. we're mostly waiting on new text.

  3. Toshio can contact the developers once we have that new text.

FWIW, the updated text could also be used at http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=fedora, which appears to basically follow the initial fedora.us / Red Hat Linux Project merger announcement from a decade ago.

Toshio has been trying to get more info about that page, see
https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/178930

I have been working on this ticket in the old tracker but did not make much/any progress. I talked to some LP developers on IRC and they told me the page is old and could be deleted. However, I was not able to get a hold of somebody who is actually capable of doing so. The owner of the page is "Registry Administrators" and the link https://launchpad.net/~registry leads only causes an internal server error.

The LP developer I talked to said that the distribution pages cannot be deleted without major code changes. He said that it would be possible to update the description, though. (For instance, to tell people to go to bugzilla.rh.c for Fedora bug reports). I suspect looking to get it deleted through normal, developer channels will lead in circles for a while until you get someone knowledgable enough to say that the same thing about distribution pages being "special".

Changing the description to be blank seems like it would be possible but I'm not familiar with the LP code or how the distribution pages figure into it.

There might also be legal remedies since the Fedora trademark is owned by RH but that would likely be seen as an unfriendly act. I wouldn't pull that trigger unless you have to.

So if we cannot delete the page and updating seems cumbersome as the "Registry Administrators" are hard to contact, should we ask if we could take ownership of the page, so we can update it as necessary?

Yes, or for them to change the description to say "For more information, see http://fedoraproject.org"

Christoph, any chance to do this? I know it's not urgent, but I'm trying to get the old tickets all closed.

It looks like the text has now been updated from "blank" to a reasonable-enough description.
