patternfly-react is for PF3. In PF4 it was split to several packages: https://github.com/patternfly/patternfly-react#patternfly-react-packages

patternfly-3 is not maintained very actively, there are several vulnerable dependencies that are not updated for months. Migration to @patternfly/react-core should improve the situation.

The problem is that patternfly 4 does not support treeviews any more, which we use extensively in the UI

Yeah it wasn't there a month ago :-) This is great news, as we really do need to do this soon!
