For example, libevent has 

void event_set_mem_functions(
    void *(*malloc_fn)(size_t sz),
    void *(*realloc_fn)(void *ptr, size_t sz),
    void (*free_fn)(void *ptr));

tevent is unique - it is built on top of talloc, a memory allocation library with some interesting features such as constructor/destructor-like functions. So we can't change tevent.
