I suggest that you try this out using 389-ds-base-1.2.9.9 to see if it works as you expect. If so, then it should work with RHDS 9.

389-ds-base is moving from Pagure to Github. This means that new issues and pull requests
will be accepted only in 389-ds-base's github repository.
